What We Did
The Problem
Two barn-style annexes were becoming extremely hot during warmer weather. Their striking black exterior cladding and high levels of insulation meant they absorbed and retained heat throughout the day.
The occupants were doing everything they could to stay cool, including keeping the curtains closed all day and effectively living in darkness to block out the heat. Despite this, temperatures remained uncomfortable well into the evening.
The main house was also becoming uncomfortably warm during periods of hot weather. With air conditioning already being considered for the two annexes, the owners decided to include the main house in the project.The Solution
Essex Cooling designed a tailored Panasonic air conditioning system for the main house and both annexes. Each unit was carefully sized to suit the space and provide efficient heating and cooling throughout the year.
Main House The latest-model 5kW Panasonic console unit was installed in the main kitchen and living area, providing effective temperature control across the open-plan space.
Annexe 1 A Panasonic 2-way multi-split system was installed. A 5kW unit serves the kitchen and living area, while a 2kW unit keeps the main bedroom comfortable. Both connect to a single 5kW multi condenser.
Annexe 2 A larger Panasonic multi-split air conditioning system was required. A 6kW unit serves the open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, with a 2kW unit in the main bedroom. Both connect to a larger multi condenser designed to meet the required capacity.
The completed installation provides independent temperature control across the main living and sleeping areas. The result is cooler, more comfortable homes during hot weather, with the added benefit of efficient heating when temperatures drop.
